NOMAD Year 1 Meeting with Scientific Advisory Committee

The NOMAD Year 1 Meeting was held in Barcelona 03 - 05 Oct 2016, hosted by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

We started with a NOMAD team meeting, where we learned about parser development activities and were updated on progress developing the NOMAD Encyclopedia and Big-Data Analytic Tools. We also saw new visualizations from the Advanced Graphics team and discussed developments in HPC Services and Infrastructure.

After the team meeting, we met with our Scientific Advisory Committee to present our progress in year 1 and to discuss their participation in related computational materials science initiatives in Japan (CMI2) and the US (MICCoM). Members of the Committee are:

  • Prof. Kiyoyuki Terakura, Distinguished Professor, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, JP - Computational materials science expert
  • Prof. Bernhard Schölkopf, Director, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, DE - Machine Learning and Optimisation Problem expert
  • Prof. Samuel Kaski, Director, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology and Professor of Computer Science, Aalto University, FI - Machine Learning and Data Analytics expert
  • Prof. Thomas Schulthess, Director, Swiss National Supercomputing Centre and Professor of Theoretical Physics, ETH, CH - Physics and computational materials science expert
  • Prof. Igor Abrikosov, Professor of Theoretical Physics and Head of Theory and Modelling Division at Linköping University - Expert in development of ab initio methods and their applications to knowledge-based materials design
  • Prof. Giulia Galli, Liew Family Professor of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, US - Expert in understanding and predicting behaviors of solids, liquids and nanostructures from first principles
  • Prof. Gerbrand Ceder, Chancellor’s Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Berkeley - Materials science expert, Co-founder of Materials Project, predecessor to the Materials Genome Initiative
