Summer School Paphos

Paphos is a historical city located in the southwest of Cyprus, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance,
as well as its natural beauty and pleasant climate. The city is home to numerous ancient sights, including the famous Paphos
Archaeological Park, which features well-preserved ruins of Roman villas, mosaics, and other ancient structures. It is also a great
family place that offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. The good weather in October makes it an ideal destination to
combine science with some sunshine, warm temperatures, and swimming.

Location:

Paphos (Cyprus), Avanti Hotel

Registration fee:

The registration fee (€550 per person - except for invited speakers and NOMAD CoE members or local participants) will cover 6 nights in a two-person apartment, from Monday October 2 till Sunday 8 October, as well as corresponding meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner, including dinner on Monday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday). The registration fee for local participants will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

In case you wish to arrive on Sunday 1 October or leave on Monday 9 October - i.e. if you need one or two additional nights -, please contact Mrs Zoe Nicolaidou (fom@avantihotel.com) and Mrs Anne Weston (accounts@avantihotel.com) at the Avanti Hotel, with a copy to Marios Zacharias (Marios.Zacharias@insa-rennes.fr and xavier.gonze@uclouvain.be).

Information on airports:

Paphos International Airport (PFO) is the main airport serving Paphos and is located approximately 7 km south-east of the city center.
Many airlines offer flights to and from Paphos, making it easy to reach from many parts of Europe and beyond. Buses or taxis are easily available to get you from the airport to the hotel location. The Bus trip is about 30 minutes (line 612 - 2.5 Euros - https://www.pafosbuses.com - bus stop next to Veronica hotel), while the taxi drive is about 20 minutes (about 20-30 Euros). Paphos airport is relatively small, arriving 1 hour before departure might be enough.

Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is the major airport in Cyprus. Although it is located 135 km east of Paphos, Larnaca Airport is still a convenient option for participants, especially if they are arriving from destinations outside of Europe. Buses or taxis can get you from the airport to Paphos or directly to the hotel location, respectively. You may also rent a car. The bus trip is more than 150 minutes  (7 Euros - https://kapnosairportshuttle.com/), there is a change at Limassol, then another at Paphos to get to the hotel. Taxi or car is about 90 minutes to the hotel. Note that in Cyprus cars drive on the left, as in the UK. Larnaca airport is quite large, we advise arriving 2 hours before departure.

It may also be possible for you to arrive at one of the airports and depart from the other.

Regarding taxis: the hotel cooperates with a taxi company that can bring people either from Larnaca or Paphos airport at reasonable cost. One can also send an email to the hotel or Zoe Nicolaidou <fom@avantihotel.com> to prebook a taxi. This can be very beneficial for of different sizes travelling together to Avanti hotel.

Miscellaneous

Electric plugs are the same as in the UK: you will need an adaptor if you have one of the standard continental electrical plug types.

Sunday October 1 is the Cyprus Independence Day. For those arriving on Sunday, there might be some small impact, such as possibly less frequent buses.
